Trail Description: The Pine Gap Trail is a moderate hike that takes you to the river. Other than the trails around the falls, this trail is the easiest to reach the river. The trail descends 300 ft. for 0.5 mi. until it reaches the river. There are a couple of campsites on the river here. The trail then ascends 180 ft. for 0.25 mi. until it reaches the Bynum Bluff Trail. This section of the trail is very rocky and steep in some parts. Once you reach the Bynum Bluff Trail you can continue straight on the Linville Gorge Trail or ascend or descend on the Bynum Bluff Trail.
Directions: From Boone; Take NC 105 south, turn left at NC 181/US-221, keep straight on NC 181 south, turn right onto NC 183, turn left onto Kistler Hwy (Old NC 105), trailhead on left after 0.90 miles.
Rating Explanation: This trail one of the easier decent trails into the gorge. The trail descends at a moderate rate until it reaches the river, then becomes very rocky and steep in areas to reach the Bynum Bluff Trail and Linville Gorge Trail at the end.
